To celebrate the exceptional nature of Le Morne; its strong and vibrant culture and art…
Nou Le Morne is back!
In 2019, we mix talents, influences, sounds and generations…
Local and international artists, music, dance, artistic installations, and workshops…Two days to live and share in a unique open-air site: the Green Village.
A festival that involves the village community and supports the actions of the NGO ADM (Action Development Le Morne)
Many thanks to Mauritian artist Daphné Doomun, our artistic godmother 2019.
She created the vision for this second edition of Nou Le Morne and offers a poetic and colourful artwork to the NGO ADM (Action Développement Le Morne).
WHY NOU LE MORNE
Nou Le Morne celebrates the 23rd of August, International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition ( More info ).
Grand time that a unifying event was unearthed to empower the local creatives and their cultural legacy as fresh artististic proposals or initiatives; leading sustainable economic practice and research in the arts and culture sector.
All profits of the festival will be donated to the NGO ADM (Action Development Le Morne). This NGO aims to promote the socio-economic development of the territory and better living conditions for its inhabitants.
NOU LE MORNE HOLDS
Whether it be nature lovers in a preserved & grandiose environment, families looking to share precious moments with their children, tourists wanting to discover the Mauritian culture or locals proud of their island; all come together to share this event that celebrates Le Morne; its nature, its culture and to value its identity. For 2019, the festival opens to new influences for even more pleasure.
The Green Village, just beyond Coteau Raffin, is a space between earth and sea. Sustainable building materials and eco-technologies are a priority. During the festival Nou Le Morne, waste is limited, sorted and recycled. Dry toilets will be installed and dishes/utensils used in the food courts are recyclable.
The residents of Le Morne village are involved in the preparation and organization of Nou Le Morne through the actions put in place by the NGO: ADM (Action Development Le Morne). They work in various festival teams before, during and after the event. (clearing, food courts, sales & green teams…) Event partners and artists get involved by organizing activities for and with them.
This NGO project is based on “win-win” logic with the population. It aims to create economic opportunities in the area, improve their living conditions and accompany the villagers on their path towards empowerment. Nou Le Morne donates its profits to the NGO.
